A Halloween Vignette
There is an arachnologist in our foyer. He is Professor Nicholas Marcellus Hentz, America's first arachnologist and a professor at UNC in the 1800's.
Professor Hentz takes his job seriously and roams the woods exploring and hunting for spiders. As you can see, he has collected some spider webs and wrapped them around the spools in the jar.
Professor Hentz has brought his vintage school chart with him (actually the leaf canvas has been transformed now...shhh!)
In our lantern he has left his school books, reading glasses, a candle to read by and one of his latest find resting on a small pumpkin.
He has another specimen above along with a spider bite kit and magnifying glass in a jar with spider scrolls.
(The spider bite kit is actually a snake bite kit of my great grandfather's from the war!)
Now the ironic thing is...when I went outside today to get the mail, a huge spider web was hanging between a pine tree and our front porch (should have taken a picture). I guess the spiders know the "arachnologist is in"!
The professor will be partying at the following blogs:
